Plaza Bakery

This past week my fiance and I have visited multiple bakeries in the area and did the ""wedding cake testing"", during this time we've also bought samples of other baked goods. I just wanted to let future brides and grooms know that Plaza Bakery is THE bakery for a wedding cake! The samples they gave us were big enough to actually get a good taste of what you may be purchasing, the other bakeries samples were barely there bites. Moist, delicious and a huge variety of flavors! Denise, the owners daughter-in-law, helped us with everything, she was very informative and really nice. You just get a real ""family"" feel to this place. As for the other treats there - Superb! The cheese danish is to die for! Twice I have purchased iced cookies out of the display case only to be severely disappointed ~ the cookies must have been DAYS, if not WEEKS OLD! For a bakery I have to say that the cupcakes and cakes I make from scratch in my own kitchen are much prettier. To top it off, the staff is not all that friendly. I have given this place three chances, and all were disappointments. The only reason I returned was for the petit fours, but after I almost broke a tooth on the last batch of cookies I WILL NOT be back. Pros: Petit Fours Cons: Everything else more

We heard great things about this bakery and decided to see for ourselves. the almond cae petit fours are really good but that's about it. We tried several items including a slice of cake. The icing was gross- the same criso based type you can get from any grocery store chain that leaves the nasty greasy residue in your mouth and the cake itself was extremly dried out. the cinnamon rolls were old and stale tasting and the cookies tasted and looked like they came out of a store bought bag. Was not worth the drive for us. Will be looking for a bakery closer to home that actually bakes thieir ""bakery"" items. Pros: good petit fours Cons: nasty tasting cake and icing more

I couldn't imgine entertaining without using the Plaza Bakery. Rolls are fresh and perfect for filling with sliced meats, petit fours are amazing, cakes are fresh and delicious, and my personal favorite, the flat decorated mints. Perfection. Great Staff, talented bakers and creative decorators. Never had any item disppoint. Pros: Fresh, delicious and great service Cons: tiny bit expensive, but so worth the price more

This bakery is BY FAR the best in the Tidewater area- probably in the state! My sister used them for her wedding cake, (as did everyone else that I know) and we have two friends that thought the cake was so out of this world- they used it for their weddings in Richmond! I can't believe no one else mentioned the petit fours in their reviews- to die for. Everyone is skeptical until they have a little taste of anything this bakery makes. I can't tell you how many ""I told you so's"" I've had to relay! Great customer service also- that small town feeling in a big city is hard to come by. The Plaza Bakery is a little taste of home. I was born & raised in The Bronx. There you would find the wonderful smells of freshed baked goods every morning in the neighberhood bakeries. I am planning my niece's wedding for June and wouldn't get the wedding cake any place else! What wedding doesn't bring a story to tell later? My mom took me to Plaza Bakery as a little girl and those butter cookies with the colored frosting dots are still my favorite treat. Plaza Bakery has done birthday cakes, wedding cakes, graduation cakes, and funeral desserts for me and my family for years and my orders were always ready and beyond expectation. The cake decorator is an amazing artist. The staff are very friendly. The new beignets are to die for! Their small-town charm is what makes them so special. Their prices are reasonable and their ingredients are fresh. If you have never been there, go there today! And make sure you sample one of those butter dot cookies! I have been going to this bakery for 20 years, had 2 wedding cakes (delivered on time and delicious!!!!!!!!!!) If any one has had a bad experience, it surely would be a rare one. Plaza has the most awesome goodies and cakes. They do all of the cakes for the equine Club I am a member of, and for the birthday Club of which I am also member - and they are always a sensation! The Maple frosting is a favorite, and the frosted Lemon pound cake is out of this world- it melts in your mouth. They did a sheet cake for a friend of mine, for her little girls B'day , and the little girl was getting a pony, so the mother brought in a picture of the pony, and the cake artists at Plaza, free handed, in frosting, the pony onto the cake- no rice paper, no airbrush- no photo copy- and It looked EXACTLY like that pony! I've been buying my special occasion cakes and other goodies at Plaza for over 17 years and have ALWAYS been very pleased and overly satisfied with the service. I would never think of going anywhere else. My children beg me to bring home the ""white"" bakery boxes filled with the NO PRESERVATIVE goodies. I drive an hour and 15 minutes about once a month to give my family this special treat. That's how good this bakery truely is!!!!! There are not many REAL BAKERYS like this one around anymore. They failed to deliever the wedding cake and grooms cake for my friends wedding! This is unexplainable, unacceptable and completely unforgiveable! They almost ruined her special once in a life time day! Do NOT under any circumstances use this bakery Cons: THEY DON'T SHOW UP more
